Psalms 54
Below each verse in the original comes an approximate reading, in italics, for anyone who wants to pronounce the text aloud. It is not academic transliteration: it does not mark stress or settle the cases that depend on grammatical analysis, and the four-letter Name is read “Yahweh”, by the founder’s decision — the Hebrew pointing instructs saying “Adonai”, and Portuguese Bibles render it “SENHOR”.
The numbering differs in this chapter. The original has a different number of verses from the Portuguese — this happens in 134 of the 1,189 chapters, mostly in the Psalms, because the Hebrew superscription (“A psalm of David”) is counted as verse 1. That is why the two texts appear separately, each with its own numbering, instead of paired: pairing here would put a verse next to the wrong one.
2Deus, ouve minha oração; inclina teus ouvidos aos dizeres de minha boca;
6De boa vontade eu te oferecerei sacrifícios; louvarei o teu nome, SENHOR, porque é bom.
7Porque tu tens me livrado de toda angústia; e meus olhos verão [o fim] de meus inimigos.
