Psalms 123
Below each verse in the original comes an approximate reading, in italics, for anyone who wants to pronounce the text aloud. It is not academic transliteration: it does not mark stress or settle the cases that depend on grammatical analysis, and the four-letter Name is read “Yahweh”, by the founder’s decision — the Hebrew pointing instructs saying “Adonai”, and Portuguese Bibles render it “SENHOR”.
1Cântico dos degraus: Levanto meus olhos a ti, que moras nos céus.
שִׁ֗יר הַֽמַּ֫עֲל֥וֹת אֵ֭לֶיךָ נָשָׂ֣אתִי אֶת־עֵינַ֑י הַ֝יֹּשְׁבִ֗י בַּשָּׁמָֽיִם׃
shir hamaalot elecha nasati et-enay hayoshvi bashamayim
hineh cheene avadim el-yad adonehem keene shifchah el-yad gevirtah ken enenu el-Yahweh elohenu ad shechanenu
3Tem piedade de nós, SENHOR! Tem piedade de nós; pois temos sido humilhados em excesso.
חָנֵּ֣נוּ יְהוָ֣ה חָנֵּ֑נוּ כִּֽי־רַ֝֗ב שָׂבַ֥עְנוּ בֽוּז׃
chanenu Yahweh chanenu ki-rav savanu vuz
4Nossa alma está cheia da zombaria dos insolentes, e da humilhação dos arrogantes.
רַבַּת֮ שָֽׂבְעָה־לָּ֪הּ נַ֫פְשֵׁ֥נוּ הַלַּ֥עַג הַשַּׁאֲנַנִּ֑ים הַ֝בּ֗וּז לִגְאֵ֥יוֹנִֽים׃
