Malachi 4
Below each verse in the original comes an approximate reading, in italics, for anyone who wants to pronounce the text aloud. It is not academic transliteration: it does not mark stress or settle the cases that depend on grammatical analysis, and the four-letter Name is read “Yahweh”, by the founder’s decision — the Hebrew pointing instructs saying “Adonai”, and Portuguese Bibles render it “SENHOR”.
This book is divided into chapters differently in the original. What is this chapter in Portuguese corresponds, in the Hebrew, to chapter 3:19-24 — the two traditions cut Joel and Malachi at different points. The text beside it is already the right passage, assembled from the equivalence table, which is why the verses line up one by one. Without it, chapter 3:19-24 of the Hebrew would have nowhere to appear.
1Porque eis que aquele dia vem ardendo como forno; todos os soberbos e todos os que praticam perversidade serão [como a] palha; e o dia que está por vir os queimará, diz o SENHOR dos exércitos, de maneira que não lhes deixará nem raiz nem ramo.

2Mas para vós, que temeis o meu nome, o Sol da justiça nascerá, trazendo cura em suas asas; e saireis, e saltareis de alegria como bezerros do curral.
