Judges 21
Below each verse in the original comes an approximate reading, in italics, for anyone who wants to pronounce the text aloud. It is not academic transliteration: it does not mark stress or settle the cases that depend on grammatical analysis, and the four-letter Name is read “Yahweh”, by the founder’s decision — the Hebrew pointing instructs saying “Adonai”, and Portuguese Bibles render it “SENHOR”.
veish yisrael nishba bamitspah lemor ish mimenu lo-yiten bito levinyamin leishah
vayavo haam bet-el vayeshvu sham ad-haerev lifne haelohim vayisu kolam vayivku bechi gadol
vayomru lamah Yahweh elohe yisrael haytah zot beyisrael lehipaked hayom miyisrael shevet echad

vayomru bene yisrael mi asher lo-alah vakahal mikal-shivte yisrael el-Yahweh ki hashvuah hagdolah haytah laasher lo-alah el-Yahweh hamitspah lemor mot yumat

vayomru mi echad mishivte yisrael asher lo-alah el-Yahweh hamitspah vehineh lo va-ish el-hamachaneh miyavesh gilad el-hakahal

vayomru yerushat peletah levinyamin velo-yimacheh shevet miyisrael
