Ecclesiastes 10
Below each verse in the original comes an approximate reading, in italics, for anyone who wants to pronounce the text aloud. It is not academic transliteration: it does not mark stress or settle the cases that depend on grammatical analysis, and the four-letter Name is read “Yahweh”, by the founder’s decision — the Hebrew pointing instructs saying “Adonai”, and Portuguese Bibles render it “SENHOR”.
1[Assim como] as moscas mortas fazem cheirar mal do óleo do perfumador, [assim também] um pouco de tolice se sobrepõe à sabedoria e honra.
זְב֣וּבֵי מָ֔וֶת יַבְאִ֥ישׁ יַבִּ֖יעַ שֶׁ֣מֶן רוֹקֵ֑חַ יָקָ֛ר מֵחָכְמָ֥ה מִכָּב֖וֹד סִכְל֥וּת מְעָֽט׃
zevuve mavet yavish yabia shemen rokecha yakar mechachmah mikavod sichlut meat
2O coração do sábio [está] à sua direita; mas o coração do tolo [está] à sua esquerda.
לֵ֤ב חָכָם֙ לִֽימִינ֔וֹ וְלֵ֥ב כְּסִ֖יל לִשְׂמֹאלֽוֹ׃
lev chacham limino velev kesil lismolo
3E até quando o tolo vai pelo caminho, falta-lhe [bom-senso em seu] coração, e diz a todos que é ele é tolo.
וְגַם־בַּדֶּ֛רֶךְ כשהסכל הֹלֵ֖ךְ לִבּ֣וֹ חָסֵ֑ר וְאָמַ֥ר לַכֹּ֖ל סָכָ֥ל הֽוּא׃
vegam-baderech chshhschl holech libo chaser veamar lakol sachal hu
4Se o espírito de um chefe se levantar contra ti, não deixes teu lugar, porque a calma aquieta grandes ofensas.
אִם־ר֤וּחַ הַמּוֹשֵׁל֙ תַּעֲלֶ֣ה עָלֶ֔יךָ מְקוֹמְךָ֖ אַל־תַּנַּ֑ח כִּ֣י מַרְפֵּ֔א יַנִּ֖יחַ חֲטָאִ֥ים גְּדוֹלִֽים׃
im-rucha hamoshel taaleh alecha mekomcha al-tanach ki marpe yanicha chataim gedolim
5Há um mal que vi abaixo do sol, um [tipo de] erro que é proveniente dos que têm autoridade:
יֵ֣שׁ רָעָ֔ה רָאִ֖יתִי תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ כִּשְׁגָגָ֕ה שֶׁיֹּצָ֖א מִלִּפְנֵ֥י הַשַּׁלִּֽיט׃
yesh raah raiti tachat hashamesh kishgagah sheyotsa milifne hashalit
6Põem o tolo em cargos elevados, mas os ricos sentam em lugares baixos.
נִתַּ֣ן הַסֶּ֔כֶל בַּמְּרוֹמִ֖ים רַבִּ֑ים וַעֲשִׁירִ֖ים בַּשֵּׁ֥פֶל יֵשֵֽׁבוּ׃
nitan hasechel bamromim rabim vaashirim bashefel yeshevu
7Vi servos a cavalo, e príncipes que andavam [a pé] como [se fossem] servos sobre a terra.
רָאִ֥יתִי עֲבָדִ֖ים עַל־סוּסִ֑ים וְשָׂרִ֛ים הֹלְכִ֥ים כַּעֲבָדִ֖ים עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃
raiti avadim al-susim vesarim holchim kaavadim al-haarets
8Quem cavar uma cova, nela cairá; e quem romper um muro, uma cobra o morderá.
חֹפֵ֥ר גּוּמָּ֖ץ בּ֣וֹ יִפּ֑וֹל וּפֹרֵ֥ץ גָּדֵ֖ר יִשְּׁכֶ֥נּוּ נָחָֽשׁ׃
chofer gumats bo yipol uforets gader yishchenu nachash
9Quem extrai pedras, por elas será ferido; e quem parte lenha, correrá perigo por ela.
מַסִּ֣יעַ אֲבָנִ֔ים יֵעָצֵ֖ב בָּהֶ֑ם בּוֹקֵ֥עַ עֵצִ֖ים יִסָּ֥כֶן בָּֽם׃
masia avanim yeatsev bahem bokea etsim yisachen bam
10Se o ferro está embotado, e não afiar o corte, então deve se pôr mais forças; mas a sabedoria é proveitosa para se ter sucesso.
אִם־קֵהָ֣ה הַבַּרְזֶ֗ל וְהוּא֙ לֹא־פָנִ֣ים קִלְקַ֔ל וַחֲיָלִ֖ים יְגַבֵּ֑ר וְיִתְר֥וֹן הכשיר חָכְמָֽה׃
im-kehah habarzel vehu lo-fanim kilkal vachayalim yegaber veyitron hchshyr chachmah
11Se a cobra morder sem estar encantada, então proveito nenhum tem a fala do encantador.
אִם־יִשֹּׁ֥ךְ הַנָּחָ֖שׁ בְּלוֹא־לָ֑חַשׁ וְאֵ֣ין יִתְר֔וֹן לְבַ֖עַל הַלָּשֽׁוֹן׃
im-yishoch hanachash belo-lachash veen yitron levaal halashon
12As palavras da boca do sábio são agradáveis; porém os lábios do tolo o devoram.
דִּבְרֵ֥י פִי־חָכָ֖ם חֵ֑ן וְשִׂפְת֥וֹת כְּסִ֖יל תְּבַלְּעֶֽנּוּ׃
divre fi-chacham chen vesiftot kesil tevalenu
13O princípio das palavras de sua boca é tolice; e o fim de sua boca [é] uma loucura ruim.
תְּחִלַּ֥ת דִּבְרֵי־פִ֖יהוּ סִכְל֑וּת וְאַחֲרִ֣ית פִּ֔יהוּ הוֹלֵל֖וּת רָעָֽה׃
techilat divre-fihu sichlut veacharit pihu holelut raah
14O tolo multiplica as palavras, [porém] ninguém sabe o que virá no futuro; e quem lhe fará saber o que será depois dele?
וְהַסָּכָ֖ל יַרְבֶּ֣ה דְבָרִ֑ים לֹא־יֵדַ֤ע הָאָדָם֙ מַה־שֶׁיִּֽהְיֶ֔ה וַאֲשֶׁ֤ר יִֽהְיֶה֙ מֵֽאַחֲרָ֔יו מִ֖י יַגִּ֥יד לֽוֹ׃
vehasachal yarbeh devarim lo-yeda haadam mah-sheyihyeh vaasher yihyeh meacharayv mi yagid lo
15O trabalho dos tolos lhes traz cansaço, porque não sabem ir à cidade.
עֲמַ֥ל הַכְּסִילִ֖ים תְּיַגְּעֶ֑נּוּ אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־יָדַ֖ע לָלֶ֥כֶת אֶל־עִֽיר׃
amal haksilim teyagenu asher lo-yada lalechet el-ir
16Ai de ti, ó terra cujo rei é um menino, e cujos príncipes comem pela madrugada!
אִֽי־לָ֣ךְ אֶ֔רֶץ שֶׁמַּלְכֵּ֖ךְ נָ֑עַר וְשָׂרַ֖יִךְ בַּבֹּ֥קֶר יֹאכֵֽלוּ׃
i-lach erets shemalkech naar vesarayich baboker yochelu
17Bem-aventurada é tu, ó terra, cujo rei é filho de nobres, e cujos príncipes comem no tempo [devido] , para se fortalecerem, e não para se embebedarem!
אַשְׁרֵ֣יךְ אֶ֔רֶץ שֶׁמַּלְכֵּ֖ךְ בֶּן־חוֹרִ֑ים וְשָׂרַ֙יִךְ֙ בָּעֵ֣ת יֹאכֵ֔לוּ בִּגְבוּרָ֖ה וְלֹ֥א בַשְּׁתִֽי׃
ashrech erets shemalkech ben-chorim vesarayich baet yochelu bigvurah velo vashti
18Pela muita preguiça o teto se deteriora; e pala frouxidão das mãos a casa tem goteiras.
בַּעֲצַלְתַּ֖יִם יִמַּ֣ךְ הַמְּקָרֶ֑ה וּבְשִׁפְל֥וּת יָדַ֖יִם יִדְלֹ֥ף הַבָּֽיִת׃
baatsaltayim yimach hamkareh uvshiflut yadayim yidlof habayit
19Para rir se fazem banquetes, e o vinho alegra aos vivos; mas o dinheiro responde por tudo.
לִשְׂחוֹק֙ עֹשִׂ֣ים לֶ֔חֶם וְיַ֖יִן יְשַׂמַּ֣ח חַיִּ֑ים וְהַכֶּ֖סֶף יַעֲנֶ֥ה אֶת־הַכֹּֽל׃
lischok osim lechem veyayin yesamach chayim vehakesef yaaneh et-hakol
20Nem mesmo em pensamento amaldiçoes ao rei, nem também no interior de teu quarto amaldiçoes ao rico, porque as aves dos céus levam o que foi falado, e os que tem asas contam o que foi dito.
גַּ֣ם בְּמַדָּֽעֲךָ֗ מֶ֚לֶךְ אַל־תְּקַלֵּ֔ל וּבְחַדְרֵי֙ מִשְׁכָּ֣בְךָ֔ אַל־תְּקַלֵּ֖ל עָשִׁ֑יר כִּ֣י ע֤וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ יוֹלִ֣יךְ אֶת־הַקּ֔וֹל וּבַ֥עַל הכנפים יַגֵּ֥יד דָּבָֽר׃
gam bemadaacha melech al-tekalel uvchadre mishkavcha al-tekalel ashir ki of hashamayim yolich et-hakol uvaal hchnfym yaged davar
